UCLan women’s first team destroyed Leeds Beckett 4ths 13-0 in the first round of the 2015/16 BUCS Cup.
Goals from Ruby Wilson, Ellie Selley (3), Sophie Holmes, Eleanor Vials (4), Sarah Cleary, Jennifer Martin (2) and remarkably from goalkeeper Hannah Shore, decided the tie, which saw UCLan progress to the next round of the cup.
UCLan started brightly, showing their dominance that lasted for most, if not all, of the game.
The 1sts had Leeds Beckett 4ths pinned well into their own half for the opening 10 minutes, but failed to get a goal to show for it.
Up stepped Wilson to fire home 14 minutes in well and truly getting the ball rolling for UCLan, who never looked back.
Goals from Selley and Holmes before the break saw UCLan take a 3-0 lead in to half time.
It was a half which saw just one real chance for Leeds Beckett to score.
The second half then proceeded to involve one of the most one-sided contests you could ever see.
Just five minutes into the second half and Vials scored her first goal of the afternoon.
Moments later Cleary added her name to the score sheet making it 5-0 with most of the second half to play.
In the space of 12 minutes UCLan extended their lead to 8-0, Martin scoring her first goal whilst Vials and Selley both knocked in their second of the match.
The game was well and truly won at this point and with Leeds not really threatening UCLan’s goal, the hosts decided to make a tactical change by moving Shore into a forward position.
It took minutes for her to get on the score sheet, adding insult to injury for the opposition.
As Leeds Beckett’s goalkeeper had to go off injured late on, the goals started flying in.
Vials scored two in two minutes, taking her tally to five for the season.
The scoring finished with Martin’s second and Selley’s third of the afternoon.
UCLan sent out a big statement with the win, captain Sophie Taylor spoke after the match about how determined they were to beat them, especially after losing to Leeds Beckett further on in the cup last year.
She also said: “It’s massive for us. We showed we are worthy and we can go far in this competition.”
Hopefully this is just the beginning of what could be a very successful season for the side.
