Welcome to Pulse Media, UCLan Students’ Union student media platforms. Being involved in student media gives a unique insight into working in newspaper, TV, or radio. If you are thinking of a career in any of these areas, student media gives you great experience that you can show off on your CV. Many producers, journalists, presenters, writers and technicians started off their careers in student media who now work for the BBC, ITV, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Independent, Sky and many more media outlets.
Pulse Media isn’t only open to those looking for a career in media but also those who have just a general interest in media. We have three media outlets at Pulse Media, they are:
The Pulse – Our student newspaper and online journalism is for those that want to develop their writing technique or want to voice their opinion on a certain topic. The Pulse publishes articles covering news, politics, sport, features, lifestyle, comment, lifestyle, and culture. If you would like to write articles then join our Facebook group to see what articles need writing, you can also propose articles to our editors which you can find in the group.
Pulse TV – Our student TV station is for those that want to develop their acting, presenting, camera, or editing skills. Pulse TV covers news, sport, entertainment, and documentaries which publicised through our social media channels and YouTube. If you have an idea for a show and would like to join the team then join our Facebook group.
Pulse Radio – Our student radio station is for those that want to develop their presenting, and technical skills. Pulse radio covers news, sport, and music with a whole range of shows from rock shows to chat shows. If you have an idea for a show and would like to join the team then join our Facebook group.

As well as volunteers to help produce shows and write articles, we also have management teams that run each media outlet. Being a part of the management team gives you even greater experience in the media sector with it looking great on a CV and putting you ahead of other candidates in future jobs. Our panel will be judging your application based on the skills and specifications of the role description (we cannot make that any clearer. It’s not just about answering the questions in the application form) – but be sure to fully justify why you deserve the role based on any of your skills or experiences.
