We’ve just spoken to Shannon Bartholomew, returning School President for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
How do you feel?
I feel good – I’m very glad that people have given me another opportunity to head the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and to continue the work I’m passionate about.
What are your priorities for the year ahead?
Communication, Course Reps, careers. I want to support communication between students and student volunteers, and student volunteers and staff, so there is a continuous feedback loop that keeps everyone in the know. I want to hold a Careers Fair, so students can see careers they might not have thought of that their degree is relevant to. Finally, I want to give each and every Course Rep the support they need to make the student experience at UCLan great.
How will you know if you have succeeded?
There will be a school of happy Course Reps, a school where people are actively trying to be my replacement, and a school where every student feels like they’ve been given the careers support they need.
Do you have anything to say to HSS students who need academic support?
Come and talk to me. I’m a friendly enough person and I like to think I’m easy to talk to – I’ve been re-elected so I’ll be able to give you support right from the get-go, and if I can’t, I’ll be able to tell you who can. If you have any problem at all, or even if you just need a vent, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
