Ball’s goal for Fleetwood against PNE nominated for Puskas Award

Lionel Messi, Carlos Tevez and David Ball are not three names you would usually associate with each another, yet all three have scored goals nominated for this year’s Puskas Award.

The Fleetwood striker’s goal was scored in March 2015, when Town hosted Preston North End in a League One fixture.

With PNE leading 1-0, Ball received a pass on the edge of their box 85 minutes into the game.

After some incredible footwork to evade the Preston defence, he proceeded to deftly chip the then PNE keeper Johnstone from some 25 yards out.

The crowd erupted and Ball ran over to the fans to deservedly celebrate his spectacular finish.

Having had plenty of time to come back down to earth since his wonder goal, what does he make of the award nomination?

“I’m absolutely delighted”, said the 25-year old.

The Puskas Award was established in October 2009 and every year the player who scores the ‘most beautiful’ goal picks up the prize.

“The likes of Carlos Tevez and Lionel Messi are people I love watching so to be in the same category as them is something I’ll cherish forever”

The public are able to vote for their favourite goal out of those shortlisted on FIFA’s website.

In November, the shortlist will be reduced from ten down to three, with the overall winner being announced on the 11th of January, 2016.

Ball will once again be looking for a good finish when the winner’s ceremony rolls around.
