An undetonated bomb has been discovered in Avenham Park, Police reported earlier today.
Two people with metal detectors had found an old three inch HE military mortar. Police said that they believe that the device could potentially be ‘live and very dangerous’.
Access to Avenham park was restricted for public safety.
Sgt Paul McLarnon said: “It looks like the bomb had been there for some time; there was some corrosion on it.”
The military were contacted and a ‘controlled explosion’ has now been carried out by experts
Preston Police tweeted pictures of the bomb along with a video of the explosion.
Police are advising the public to stay away from the area until further notice.
