BUCS 2016/17 Season Preview

After the excitement of fresher’s, the term is in full swing with the British University and College Sport (BUCS) season set to start this Wednesday.

UCLan have entered 48 teams in 17 different sports and will be looking to improve on last year’s finish of 63rd out of 144 universities in Britain.

Last season the badminton 1st team finished 2nd in the Northern 2A division and will be looking to go one better this year to win the league and get promoted.

The 2nd team didn’t fare as well in the 2015/16 season as they were relegated from the Northern 3A division down the 4A division.

The women’s team will also be looking to bounce back from relegation after a fifth placed finish last year saw them drop down to the Northern 2A division.

The UCLan basketball 1st team are set for another season in the top division after finishing third last year.

It will be a first season in Northern 3A division for the basketball 2nd team after winning the league last season.

After back-to-back relegations from the top league down to the Northern 3A division, the women’s team finished 2nd last year and will be looking to win the league this year to get promoted.

It was an extremely successful season for the football 1st team last year.

They completed a league and cup double after winning the Northern 2A division and the Northern Conference Cup and will be looking forward to the season ahead in the top league.

The 2nd team will be looking to improve on last season’s performance as they narrowly avoided relegation from the Northern 2A division after finishing 5th in the league.

The 4th team fared a lot better last season as they won the Northern 5A division.

After completing the double in the 2014/15 season, the women’s football team finished 3rd in their first season in the Northern 1A division.

The American Football team won the Yorkshire 1A division title and will play in the 1A North West Division this year.
