The B team made history yet again, finishing 2nd in the BUCS regional tournament, behind the University of Liverpool at Myerscough College.

UCLan finished 4th in the dressage event but Leonie Holicki did secure a 5th place finish out of 16 riders on the individual leader board.

UCLan were competing against two teams from Durham University and another from the University of Liverpool.

Maddie Refoy, Jade Cannon, Katy Whitehead and Holicki who made up the team, became the first to qualify for a regional event since the club was established over 20 years ago.

Whitehead, who is the current chair of the club and was competing for the final time ahead of her graduation next month, was delighted with the team’s performance.

“UCLan equestrian’s trophy team made history by not only qualifying for regional heats, but then achieving an amazing 2nd place team result,” Whitehead told Pluto.

“This is something we as a club never dreamed could be accomplished.

“With generous support from a university grant all four members juggled training numerous times a week as well as writing a dissertation.

“The atmosphere at regionals was electric and we were all so proud to be representing UCLan against some prestigious universities.

“The biggest thanks has to go to the rest of our club, our trainers and sponsors for getting the team to where they are today.

“We could not have done it without everyone backing us the whole way.

“The whole experience has been both memorable and exhilarating, and we are so proud of how far we have come and how much our club has pulled together to achieve such amazing results.”
