Foodie Friday: The Guild

the guild

If you’re one of the students who lives in Warehouse Apartments then you’re in luck because almost directly opposite you is the Guild and on summer days it has to be one of my favourite places to sit out and have a drink.

I attended with my better half on a Friday afternoon for some well-needed lunch after a mammoth return-to-gym workout. Situated on Fylde road it is a stones throw from the SU and campus in general.

THE PUB

It has a very generous outdoor seating area/beer garden which catches the sun beautifully (on the days the sun decides to shine of course) and an ample number of benches provide good seating options for those that want to eat or drink outside. The outdoor area was clean and tidy which increased the attractiveness of the building as a whole.

Inside is a wide range of seating that can cater for small groups and large groups respectively. There is a pool table and various televisions dotted around with sky sports available for all those big matches. The pub itself was clean and tidy and tables were cleared and wiped down when customers left.

THE FOOD

The food menu, while offering your generic pub grub meals had a children’s menu and, rather sweetly, a seniors menu also. The manager pointed out that they are in fact getting a whole new menu in October so keep your eyes peeled.

I opted for the steak and ribs combo with sides included. My steak was ever so slightly undercooked which was a shame and did have a peculiar taste to it, while it wasn’t unpleasant there was a feeling that the grill was probably due a clean. The ribs were nice enough and the chips were well portioned. The food came in good time and with a pint of coke and a half pint of beer came to just under £12.

The Guild has a range of events on throughout the week to keep its patrons entertained and one that seems specific to the Guild is the Poker night on Wednesdays at 8pm. The food may be not be Michelin star quality but the pub on the whole is a lovely place to meet for a social and a great venue to start your pub golf night out!
