In a top of the table clash the UCLan 5ths trashed the UCFB 4ths 4-0 to gain promotion.
Goals from Liam Vickery, Luke Rathbone, Lucas Thornley and Sam Shobande secured the 3 points and promotion from the Northern 7C division.
Liam Vickery broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when he nutmegged the goalkeeper after being played through on the left hand side by Joel Cummings.
Just after halftime Luke Rathbone doubled the lead with a placed finish in the bottom right hand corner after going on a mazy run on the left wing.
With 20 minutes left the ball fell to Lucas Thornley who scored from 6 yards out. In the 80th minute Sam Shobande showed great composure to finish into the bottom corner when he has 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper.
The manager of the UCLan 5th team Tim Tack said “It’s brilliant to win the league with a game in hand. To have scored as many as we have done and played as we have done as well.”
Tim who is a former captain of the UCLan 5th team added “Every time I do anything to do with the mens football at UCLan I always feel an immense amount of pride and to be honest this moment is probably the proudest moment that I have had.”
When asked about his highlight of the season he said “There’s not a minute that I’ve had with this set of lads and this job itself that I’ve not enjoyed so choosing a best moment in particular would be difficult. All of the time combined with the lads would probably be the highlight for me.”
In just their second season in BUCS competition the UCLan 5ths have won every league game and broke a UCLan record with a 17-0 win.
