[FROM THE PAPER] Come and Join Us!

By Joe Young -- Deputy Culture Editor

Student Media applications for the next academic year are open now! We’ve got a variety of roles available for the next year, including plenty of new ones, across Pluto, Frequency Radio, and PSTV. Student Media is a great way to develop transferable skills and boost your CV, and it’s a great way to make friends and have a laugh. There is so much variety in what we do that it’s almost certain there’ll be something you enjoy doing somewhere. But don’t just take our word for it, here are some quotes from our volunteers:

“I was looking for something to do over the summer while everyone was away, and it just snowballed from writing for the website to kill time. I got further into it because the people are fantastic.”

“I wanted to expand my skills set and improve my academic work. It has also given me a group of friends I would not have otherwise met”

Frequency Radio

“It’s a good way of making friends. I didn’t know my co-hosts very well when we started and doing a show together helped us to become close friends. I’ve also met loads of other great people from it.”

“I wanted to join a society but then seen SU media and found that PSTV would be best suited for my degree and future goals”

“It seemed like the best way to get more experience in the area I wanted to go into, it meant I progressed quicker and gave me an advantage over others on my course”

Applications close on the 21st April at 5PM. You can find all the application forms for each platform under the ‘Volunteer For Us’ tab at the top of the page. We offer a full training package to all of our volunteers, and there is always plenty of support available.
Additionally, all of the hours spent volunteering for student media count towards the Livesey Award, a free qualification that recognises the commitment of volunteers in the Students’ Union. With everything we can offer you, there’s no reason not to get involved!
