With the Golden Globes already over, this year has barely begun but there is already a vast amount of upcoming cinema to look forward to. Here are my top 5 picks for 2017.

Ghost in a Shell – 31st March

Starring Scarlett Johansson as a cyborg policewoman who must hunt down a mysterious and powerful hacker. This release is sure to attract fans of the Ghost in a Shell franchise as well as fans of sci-fi. The trailer just screams smooth, silky action and unreal cinematography, making it one of this years most anticipated releases.

A Cure for Wellness – 24th February

This new thriller follows a young executive who is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from a mysterious “wellness centre” located in the Swiss Alps. Starring Jason Isaacs, this looks set to deliver and shock audiences. A Cure for Wellness looks beyond intense and insanely beautiful. This is without a doubt a film to look out for in the upcoming months.

Get Out – 17th March

The up and coming horror, Get Out, set for release in March, follows Chris and his girlfriend on their weekend getaway to meet her parents. All is going somewhat well before Chris starts to suspect something is wrong and begins to uncover the truth. Get Out looks like the most promising horror set for release this year – so far.

T2 Trainspotting – 27th January

The long await sequel to cult classic Trainspotting is almost here and is obviously one of the most anticipated films releasing this year. With the original characters returning, T2 looks like it’s going to not only satisfy fans of the original, but also finish the story in classic, dirty and explicit Trainspotting style. Danny Boyle is set to thrill audiences with this gritty yet real sequel.

Alien: Covenant – 19th May

Although still a few months away, the hype for Ridley Scott’s latest film, Alien: Covenant is real. Following the crew of the colony ship Covenant who stumble upon what they think to be an uncharted paradise, the crew discover they are wrong. With the trailer leaving the impression that this Alien sequel is going to offer up all the best parts of the original, with classic Ridley Scott style. This is certainly a slice of sci-fic and horror to look forward too.

2017 has a lot to offer with a lot of films to offer in the coming months, it’s hard not to get excited.
