FROM THE PAPER: Summer Essential Cosmetics

by Sian Summers - reporter

If you are looking to throw away the makeup bag this summer like I have in exchange for gorgeous, natural skin I have found a few products which I now don’t think I could live without. My favourite look of the summer is natural, bronzed and fresh. With the following products, you too can master this amazing look.

If you do wear makeup, the key is to remove it properly. Forget the face wipes containing endless chemicals which could do more harm to your face than actually leaving your makeup on and opt for a body shop range of cleanser and toner. There are many available such as t-tree, vitamin E, Aloe and seaweed but my personal favourite has to be the vitamin E range. Perfect for both makeup removal or prepping your face for the day ahead. Priced at £10 per bottle but there is currently a 3 for 2 offer on which runs regularly throughout the year. Also, if you would like a tester they are usually more than happy to supply a sample pot in store so you can try before you buy.

After prepping your face in the morning it is important to prime to maintain clear skin. Primer ensures that any makeup applied sits on top of the skin instead if sinking into pores. It also makes your makeup last the whole day, as it takes longer for the makeup to seep through the primer. My absolute favourite primer is the YSL gel primer available at YSL counters in all department stores. It has tiny gold particles in. This means it acts perfect as both a primer or an alternative to foundation or other makeup. At a £30 price tag it is expensive for a student budget but once you have tried it I promise you will never look back. I am already considering it to be my best purchase of the summer!

To avoid chapped lips in the coming summer months, the lip scrub range from Lush is perfect. It exfoliates the lip and removes dead skin leaving them feeling smooth and healthy. The lip scrub is available in different flavours which all have different colours. All of them have a shimmery tint to them making them perfect as a lip primer or as an alternative to balm or gloss. The scrubs last forever and priced at only £5.50, definitely worth a try!

Finally, we all want a healthy glow during the summer months which doesn’t look orange but can be achieved without sunbeds. My absolute favourite gradual tan is Garnier Summer Body which tans and moisturises skin. It dries perfectly, within 2-3 hours you will see a noticeable glow which is a full and non-streak tan by the next day. Priced at under £5 and currently on offer at asda for just £2.50 it will guaranteed be your best buy of the summer.
