On 8th November 2016 the unexpected happened; Donald J. Trump won the Presidential election of the United States of America.
Trump was born in New York City on 14th June 1946 to Mary and Fred Trump. He attended The Kew-Forest School, an independent school in the city with fees up to £29,400 per year.

He attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League school, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.
Trump’s business ventures have included real estate, theatre, construction, hotels, golf courses, modelling, education, beauty pageants, and television.
As well as these ventures, Trump has also licensed the ‘Trump’ brand, with the brand being valued by Forbes magazine at approximately £164,000,000.

In summer 2015, he announced his campaign for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination. This was not Trump’s first foray into politics, having made a brief run for the Reform Party’s nomination in 2000 before withdrawing.
After the Primaries – a series of elections in which party members can cast votes supporting individual candidates – Trump emerged as the frontrunner. He was declared the official candidate of the Republican Party in July 2016.
Trump’s campaign was a controversial one – it was widely reported that many of the claims he made were untrue or exaggerated.

Nonetheless, this did not stop him from emerging victorious with 304 electoral votes to Democrat Hillary Clinton’s 227. This meant that Trump became the oldest person to ever win the Presidency, at 70 years of age. He is also the first without a military or political background.
