The Lilywhites already knew that they would be without Chris Humphrey and Iain Hume for the weekend’s game but Will Hayhurst received a late call-up to the Republic of Ireland’s under-21 squad on Monday afternoon and subsequently missed the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy defeat to Oldham on Tuesday night.
Football League rules state that any League One club with three or more international call-ups can request for a match to be postponed but Grayson confirmed that he has no intention of asking for a postponement.
“There is no question about us calling the game off,” he said. “We lost our first league game at the weekend and we have a group of players that are still capable of winning matches without one or two of the squad so we will definitely be playing.
“We have got players who can come into the team and won’t make us any weaker. We will be going out to play against a Crewe team who are on a dodgy run at this moment in time but they will be desperate to put it right so we wanted to play this game regardless of having two or three players called up.”
