Everyone looks forward to summer throughout the year for many reasons. Tans, summer fashion, holidays and spending time outdoors are all exciting. However, it’s also the time when your skin pays the price for the sunshine. Your skin is at it’s most vulnerable during the summer and you may find yourself breaking out more than usual.

Luckily for you, our lifestyle team have collected few tips to prevent spots and look after your skin during summer.

1. Keep hydrated – it’s always important, no matter the weather, that you drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and help flush out any toxins that may affect your complexion. When the weather is hot and you are sweating, have a cooling mist handy to spray onto your face. This will help to freshen your skin and keep it hydrated from the outside.

2. Cleanse, tone and moisturise – Make sure that using a facial wash on your skin, designed to prevent breakouts and to unclog pores, is a part of your daily routine. Afterwards, be sure to dry your face and use a moisturiser or a toner to help keep your skin hydrated throughout the day or night.

3. Sun cream – Whether or not you are on holiday, sun cream is still important while you’re out in the sun, most likely trying to get a tan. Keep your skin well protected by using a sun cream containing UVA and UVB protection which will prevent burning and skin damage from exposure to the sun. It will also help to prevent signs of aging and skin cancer. After your day in the sun, use an after sun lotion with Aloe Vera. This will help to repair any sun damage and keep your skin smooth and soft. And be sure to make sure the factor of your sun cream is high enough for your skin type – everyone is different.

4. Take a break from makeup – As difficult as it may be to try to stay away from applying makeup every day, makeup is still full of chemicals which can cause break outs and blocked pores. In summer, your skin is more likely to produce more oil, which can clog your pores even further. On days that you’re not busy, try to give your skin a break and stay makeup free. If this proves too difficult for you, try wearing a BB cream instead of your foundation.

These are only a few tips that can help you keep your skin well looked after and healthy during summer, there are many more out there. Follow these tips and not only will you have a nice summer glow, but you will have healthy and spot free skin to join it.
