The Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre will host a European Table Tennis Championships qualifying match on the 13th of December.
The match will be held between the England Leopards women’s team and Germany who are the Olympic Silver medallists.
The qualifying match is a prestige tie as England’s opponents have won the last three European Championship titles as well as silver in Rio.
The Germans have some of the best players in the world including Han Ying and Petrissa Solja who are placed 7th and 14th in the world rankings respectively.
However, the home side are also very talented and have Commonwealth Games medallists Tin-Tin Ho and Kelly Sibley in their ranks.
It’s not the first time that a major table tennis event has been held at UCLan as the STFSC was also the venue for England versus Australia prior to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and has also staged age-group national table tennis championships.
Martin Baines, Manager of UCLan’s Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre said: “We are proud and delighted to be hosting this prestigious event.
“It’s a great opportunity for the local community to see some of the world’s very best table tennis players right here on our doorstep.”
