My Rating: 9/10
Director: Matthew Vaughn
Starring: Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Samuel L. Jackson and Taron Egerton
“Manners maketh Man.”
The Kingsman secret service is no ordinary spy service. Lead by Arthur played by Michael Caine the Kingsman service consists of only a handful of highly trained spies.
Based in London in a tailors shop, Kingsman follows the story of Harry Heart (Colin Firth), a Kingsman who takes “Eggsy” Unwin (Taron Egerton) under his wing. After Eggsy’s father was killed in his final instalment of Kingsman training, Heart feels that it is his duty to protect Eggsy.
The film follows the Kingsman service as the new recruits go through their training and elimination process, whilst trying to stop the American millionaire Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson) from taking over the world.
Colin Firth is known for his roles in British cinematography such as Love Actually, The Kings Speech and Bridget Jones’ Dairy. But we see Firth like we have never seen him before in Kingsman. Firth brings not just British sophistication to the film but smooth comedy.
One thing that I admired with this film was the action scenes. They have clearly been thought out thoroughly and filmed with such precision using the same slow motion shots we’ve seen in other films such as Sherlock Holmes and Kick Ass – this would make sense as Vaughn also directed Kick Ass.
Kingsman is full of great actors we already know but also introduces Taron Egerton, who plays the main character Eggsy. As a stereotypical cockney lad, Egerton brings a different kind of humour to the film compared to Firth. From flirting with a Scandinavian Princess to thinking a Pug was a Pit Bull.
If you are a spy film fan then Kingsman is definitely worth a watch. With gadgets like the poison pen, taser ring and a bullet proof umbrella this film is a dream come true for spy lovers.
With an average IMDb (International Movie Database) rating of 8.3 this film is the perfect action packed, comedy to kick-start the year. Laugh out loud funny and jam packed with talented actors!
