Just like the weather at the Sandbach Stadium in Manchester, the women’s football 2nd team were cold and vicious to their opponents from Manchester Metropolitan University.
On the final day of last season they lost 9-1 to the Manchester Metropolitan 4ths.
However, with a fresh team and fresh talents they managed to recover from that loss making an incredible start to the new campaign by scoring 14 goals.
UCLan opened the match by scoring their first goal in under a minute.
They kept good control of the ball following the opening goal and were dominant in possession which lead to four more goals inside the next 20 minutes.
The fast pace of the game and lack of concentration during the second half resulted in one goal being scored by the opponent.
Star of the match striker Claudia Jackson, netted a double hat-trick and admitted she was happy to start the season on winning terms.
“We had to make sure that we put loads of pressure on them all the time and that’s when they started to make mistakes.”
Jackson admitted that: “the opposition deserved to score because they were very strong in defense and up front.
“We just took our eyes off the ball for a little bit and next time we have to focus all the way through.”
