Joe Garner opened the scoring in the 11th minute at Craven Cottage, getting on the end of Paul Gallagher’s corner kick and heading past Joe Lewis.
The Cottagers equalised with just over ten minutes, Ross McCormack’s free-kick on the edge of the box flying into the top corner, leaving Jordan Pickford with no chance.
Both sides went close to scoring more goals but a combination of bad luck and great saves kept the scores level.
Jordan Pickford produced a wonderful save to tip a chip from Moussa Dembele onto the bar in the first half.
Eoin Doyle went close to doubling North End’s lead when he headed inches wide just before the break.
Fulham fans felt aggrieved as they had a couple of penalty claims waved away by the referee.
Greg Cunningham denied McCormack just outside the six-yard box and the Fulham forward was also denied a few minutes later, Adam Reach making a superb block.
North End’s Stevie May was stretchered off just minutes after coming on as a substitute, towards the end of the match.
Overall there were plenty of positives for Simon Grayson, who saw his side defend resolutely and Garner score his second goal in two games after not scoring in over 1,100 minutes.
