On a sunny day at the Sports Arena UCLan were coming off the back of a convincing victory against Leeds 2nd’s in the cup last week to book a place in the quarter finals against UCLan’s 1st team.

Before the game UCLan were struck with an injury in the warm up to Matty Dixon and so Mikey Allcock took over the captaincy for the day.

The match got off to a blistering start with goals for both sides in the first six minutes. Five minutes into the game the Manchester striker was played through and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Lewis McCarthy.

Then straight from kick off Shaun Kelly scored a goal worthy of goal of the season by having an ambitious shot from the half way line which lobbed the Manchester keeper and went straight into the top left hand corner.

The match continued to be all UCLan with second goal coming seven minutes later. Steve Whitley was one on one and slid the ball underneath the keeper. Three minutes later Hutton missed from a yard out by heading a Dunroe cross onto the bar.

The first half was all UCLan and they should have been out of sight by half time. However in the 43rd minute Manchester went ahead against the run of play with their attacking midfield making a powerful run from midfield and took on four players before sliding the ball into the bottom right hand corner with outside of his right foot.

The second half got off to a slow start and it took until the 54th minute for UCLan to have a chance of note. A cross from the left hand side was flicked on to the crossbar and came back out to Kelly who had a tap in to make it 3-2.

After the goal the game slowed down in terms of chances but became heated with players from both teams having words with each other.

Towards the end of the game UCLan killed the game with a fourth goal from in-form striker Kelly who was played through and had a shot which was saved by the Manchester goalkeeper but ricocheted back of Kelly leaving him with an empty net to pass the ball into.
