UCLan slipped to a 4-2 home defeat against their Salford counterparts at the Sports Arena on Wednesday afternoon, on the opening day of the league season.
Goals from Liam Mollay and Mohad, either side of two Salford goals had brought the hosts level, however two own goals late on into the game wrapped up the win for the visiting Salford side.
The first chance of the encounter provided the first goal, with Salford’s centre forward skipping his man and confidently slotting home into the far corner, past the dive of goalkeeper Zach Leavers, after five minutes.
However, following sustained pressure on the Salford goal, UCLan roared back ten minutes later, with Liam Mollay receiving the ball and confidently seeing his right-footed effort go into the back of the net.
Both sides were then reduced to half chances, with Mollay, and Tom Rogers both going close for the hosts, as the half progressed.
Salford themselves could only muster up half chances, with the first period drawing to a close.
As proceedings for the second half commenced, UCLan looked to assert their home advantage, however it would be Salford who would find a second goal.
A free-kick was whipped into the crowded box, which was then bundled home at the far post for the visitors, with an hour played.
Up the other end, UCLan perhaps should have been level, but Tom Rogers saw his shot comfortably saved by the goalkeeper.
Soon enough, UCLan would be level, after 72 minutes, as Mohad coolly tapped home into an open goal following a fine cross from the bye-line.
Three minutes later, Salford were back in-front, through unfortunate circumstances for the hosts. A corner was driven in from the right, with Flanagan’s goal-bound header diverted in off a UCLan defender.
Despite some late pressure from UCLan, the game was wrapped up in the 85th minute, with keeper’ Zach Leavers’ punt charged down and deflected in off the back of the shot stopper.
