NaSTA 2015 ‘a huge success’ for PSTV

PSTV celebrate on stage after being awarded the Tim Marshall Award for Special Recognition

PSTV won Highly Commended for the Tim Marshall Award for Special Recognition at the 2015 NaSTA conference last weekend, which they co-hosted with LA1:TV.

The 42nd annual National Student TV Association (NaSTA) conference and awards was joint hosted this year in Preston by PSTV and LA1:TV, from Lancaster, from Friday March 27 to Sunday March 29.

PSTV were commended for their hard work this year, with Tim Marshall noting the station’s tenacity to establish itself within UCLan, despite a small team, as to why he awarded this to the station.

The Tim Marshall Award for Special Recognition goes to a station for “outstanding achievement, especially with respect to the station’s commitment to overcoming challenging circumstances and achievement through innovation in the past year.”

Station Manager Peter Harper said:”I’m happy that our team came away from NaSTA with the highly commended award, it really cemented how good a job the team has done all year and inspired the next lot of management for PSTV.

“It was a great weekend and winning was the cherry on top. Out of 43 stations and hundreds of entries its still possible for a small station to stand out amongst the crowd and as a station manager I couldn’t be prouder of the people I have worked with all year and I will be sad to leave the position.”

There were 23 awards in total to be given out from Best News and Current Affairs to Best Freshers’ Coverage. The awards ceremony took place at the Preston Guild Hall on Saturday March 28th.

NaSTA 2015 Host Officer Matt Murphy says he was “overwhelmed with joy” at PSTV winning their award, and added how the smooth running of the conference was all down to the months of careful planning

“I can’t be happier with how the conference panned out.” Said Matt,”There were some rather stressful parts, but we did a fantastic job at dealing with any problems we faced, and the team behind it all deserve every bit of praise they received.

“We’ve been meticulously planning for this even before day one when we formulated our bid, and so seeing it all come together now is a strange, but very satisfying feeling of accomplishment.

“With this now, both a hugely successful conference and national award win, PSTV will have put themselves on the map nationally, and hopefully shown the university and the students’ union how important they really are and the respect they deserve.”

The NaSTA conference is to be hosted by Leeds Student TV (LSTV) in 2016.
