Konami, one of the biggest names in gaming, have released details of a Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) League – open exclusively to UK university students. The Konami Company were involved in this year’s Play Expo which took place in Manchester’s Event City on the 11th and 12th October. Konami UK representatives were also present to answer any queries about the game and the University Championship project.

Konami also gave avid fans the chance to play the new Pro Evolution Soccer 2015, which went down a hit at Manchester’s Play Expo and was awarded the title of ‘Best Sports Game’ at Gamescom 2014. Graham Day, Konami UK Community Manager stated how PES 2015 has been “inspired by the golden years of the series” and that the introduction of so many more opportunities for fans to get involved in, such as the University Championship, means PES’s “emphasis on its mantra ‘the pitch is ours’ has never been more true”.

EA Sports’ FIFA series in recent years has been the forerunner for student gaming in the form of drinking games before a night out on the tiles. Konami’s new fresh approach of tapping into the student gaming market could snatch the student gaming population from under FIFA’s feet at a time when the series is arguably struggling for fresh ideas.

Additionally Konami is offering students to become a PES League Ambassador and gaining the title of becoming an official Pro Evolution Soccer League representative. Although the title of ‘PES league Ambassador’ may not sound like something to put on your CV for a job interview if you were to become a pilot for example, but it gives the opportunity for students to work with Konami UK officials to organise PES League tournaments on campus.

The results of matches between participating students will then be updated and sent directly on the official PES league website. These results are then used to determine which student is the PES League University Champion at each campus. Konami have created a partnership with GAME and Adidas as part of the league to ensure that students will have regular supplies of a variety of awards and prizes to compete for.

The winner will be guaranteed to compete at the PES UK Finals where the winner of that tournament will be given the opportunity of a life time – to play PES on the world stage against other champions from countries around the world. Pro Evolution Soccer 2015’s release date is November, and fans that are waiting for the game can download the official PES 2015 demo from the Xbox and Play Station Live Networks.
