Preston North End have signed experienced defender Paddy McCarthy from Crystal Palace on loan for the rest of 2015.
The Irish Centre Back joins the Lilywhites on a 93 day emergency loan contract, with Manager Grayson highlighting the lack of depth at the back after the suspension of Bailey Wright and injury to Paul Huntington.
“It was a needs must situation, but Paddy was a player we have looked at for a number of weeks and months” said Grayson. “He has great experience, is a leader, knows the game inside out and we feel his experience will help us”.
The 32 year old former Palace Captain has struggled to get regular first team action since they were promoted to the Premier League, spending the second half of the season on loan at PNE’s Championship rivals, Bolton Wanderers.
The Irishman expressed his delight at signing for North End, adding “When I heard there was interest I jumped at the chance to come up here and I’m excited for the challenge ahead. I’ve played a lot of games in the Championship and we’ve got a decent squad here, so hopefully I can add something to that”.
McCarthy will wear the number four shirt and was included in this weekend’s squad for the trip to Sheffield Wednesday.
