Daniel Johnson scored his first goal for Preston North End in their 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe.
Just before the hour mark the midfielder collected a clever reverse pass from former Aston Villa team-mate Callum Robinson to scoop the ball home from ten yards out.
Paul Gallagher then added a second 18 minutes from time when he latched onto a ball by Chris Humphrey at the back post.
It could have been three soon after as Daniels spilled a cross from Robinson and Bailey Wright was on hand to hook the ball goalwards, but manage to Williams to scramble it out for a corner.
However, the score could have been very different as Scunthorpe almost took the lead after just 10 minutes with after Preston keeper Sam Johnstone’s poor kick Liam O’Neil had a 30-yard effort with the goal gaping but it went just over the bar.
In the second half Gallagher was forced to clear a Paddy Madden shot off the line from a corner. However PNE also had plenty of chances, with Garner missing a couple of good opportunities.
After the first goal PNE pressed immediately for a second, Paul Gallagher seeing a shot well saved by Daniels after Robinson had played a ball in behind the defence.
1st placed Bristol City and 3rd placed Swindon Town lost their matches against Colchester and Crawley respectively which is a massive bonus as PNE push for promotion.
PNE assistant manager Glynn Snodin said “The other promotions sides are going to be looking over their shoulder for Preston North End – they know what a big club and what great players we’ve got here.”
He added that “We’re not looking over our shoulders, we’re looking beyond that and looking to catch up on the top two.”
