The level of the parasite in Lancashire’s water has fallen significantly due to UV light.
United Utilities have installed UV light rigs at five different sites in order to try and eradicate the bug.
The cryptosporidium bug can be killed by a shot of UV light. Since starting this United utilities have said that the levels of the bug are now ‘very low’ but residents are still being warned to boil water.
The warning was first issued on 6 August when traces of the parasite were found at the Franklaw treatment works near Preston.
Residents in parts of Lancashire, including Preston should still boil any water they use for drinking, food preparation or brushing their teeth as a precaution until further notice.
