[REVIEW] Halsey – New Americana

By Ashleigh Clarke - Reporter

From singing covers on YouTube, to parodying Taylor Swift on her Tumblr account, Halsey has come a long way within the music industry after being signed by Astralwerks in 2014 and is currently in the process of writing her second studio album as we speak.

Taken from her first studio album – Badlands; which she subbed as being an “angry female record” released in 2015, Halsey has it big time with her new single – ‘New Americana.’

The song itself is packed with a punch, as the heavy bass booms against her serene vocals, giving it that extra bite. It comes across to me as a revolutionary fight song, finally standing up to the people who pushed you down. Her lyrics promote the youth of today, she is not just singing for her, she’s singing for them as well.

Its electronic pop feel gives it that push to be a chart success, yet standing out from the crowd with its supremely catchy lyrics and adrenaline boosting beat.

If this song is anything to go by, then her album isn’t worth missing out on. Her music is full of promise already and I can definitely see her becoming bigger as the days go on.
