[REVIEW] Mike Posner – In Ibiza (SeeB Remix)

By Joe Young - Deputy Culture Editor

He’s back – 2010 chart smasher Mike Posner returns to the Top 40 this week in the Number One spot. His latest offering, In Ibiza, has a new type of sound that is far from his previous hit, Cooler Than Me.

The top spot was taken by the SeeB Remix of it, which adds electronic dance music (EDM) themes to it to make it the sort of song that you’d hear in a nightclub, whereas the original has a very ‘Passenger’ feel to it – stripped back, with an acoustic guitar, and enough soul to make Adele jealous.

I’m just a singer who already blew his shot
I get along with old timers
‘Cause my name’s a reminder of a pop song people forgot

The lyrics themselves are very self-deprecating, as shown above, with Posner saying that this is how he saw himself for a considerable period. An ironic twist, considering that this single is a chance to revitalise his career and turn it into a major success.

This track is a very strong release to start a comeback from, and I for one am very much looking forward to seeing the other singles that are released in the future. Not all comebacks are successful, but with this sort of thing, I would be amazed if it wasn’t.
