It was announced today that the popular television series from our childhoods, Robot Wars, will be making a comeback series of six one hour long episodes. Production company Mentorn Scotland, owned by Tinopolis, has been commissioned by BBC2, where it is set to be aired, to make the new series. Robot Wars is a series in which contestants build their own remote controlled robots and pit them against each other in a gladiator style arena to try and win the title of Robot Wars champion.
The series aims to update the format with new technology to make it accessible to a new generation of viewers. It will be recorded at a state of the art, custom built arena in Glasgow, where the latest production technologies can be utilised to capture every dramatic moment in exquisite detail.
Chris Brogden, the Creative Director of Entertainment at Tinopolis, said “Bringing back Robot Wars to our screens is hugely exciting. Its return will see new and improved robots, with extraordinary innovation and power in these updated machines – it promises to be quite the competition.”
Robot Wars, since its 2003 cancellation, has been doing live tours of the United Kingdom, with the 2016 tour beginning on 23rd April.
