Students warned of ATM fraud

Reports are surfacing of possible fraud at a cash machine on campus.

Several students claim they have had money stolen from their accounts after using the ATM next to Essentials, at the Students’ Union.

Second year forensic science student Hannah Kos, who used the machine, realised the difference after trying others.

“It took my card and was being very slow about the process. It wouldn’t let me have any money.

“My card worked fine at a different cash machine. I checked my online banking to find I had no money!”

UCLan security say there have been cases of fraud at this ATM in the past, where they’ve found a card-reading machine, taking details through a process called ‘skimming’.

Those affected have been asked to call the number provided on the ATM. Comment or contact us if you’ve used the machine and noticed any changes.
