Summer Survival 2016: The Soul Rays

by Leah Bradford-Thom - Deputy Culture Editor

The Soul Rays is an unsigned group from Liverpool, which began in 2013. Boasting a 10-piece line-up, including three singers and four brass players, they are a RnB and Hip Hop influenced band with an sensational funk vibe. They cite some of their musical influences as James Brown and Betty Davies.

The tracks that The Soul Rays have released so far may be few, but they have already packed a punch with their summer sounds. The most recent Girl’s Got Game features a sharp, memorable guitar riff, whilst other tracks such as Mr Big Man show off the dynamism of their multiple frontwomen.

Their next shows after Summer Survival include the Liverpool Rock and Roll Marathon at the end of May, as well as festival appearances such as Kendal Calling in July.

The Soul Rays will be on the Piazza Music Stage at 8pm on Saturday.
