A Santander cash machine

Thieves have been targeting Santander cash machines across the entirety of Lancashire. Last week, cash machines were targeted in East Lancashire, with the thieves moving across to the rest of Lancashire within the last few days. UCLan students have reported that their details have been stolen after using them across the city, with some highlighting the importance of making sure students take security precautions when news like this comes to light so close to student finance arriving.

Lancashire Police have said on their Facebook page, which can be found here, that “customers who have lost money or believe they have seen anything suspicious should contact Santander and the police on 101.”

At present, Santander are unable to deactivate the cash machines, and are advising people to not use them.

The cash machine at Foster Building is provided by Barclays so should be safe for all urgent withdrawals, though at Pluto we advise vigilance.

Santander and Lancashire Police were both unavailable to comment.

If you have been affected by this, contact Lancashire Police on 101 and Santander Customer Service on 0800 912 3123.
