The UCLan football 5ths sent out a message to their rivals with a thumping 17-0 victory over Keele 4ths at the UCLan Sports Arena.
Lucas Thornley who only just returned from injury and Marvin Martin bagged a hat-trick each whilst Sam Shobande and Joel Cummings scored two each. Goals from Joe Bell, Lewis McGrath, Liam Vickery, Sam McLoughlin, Rhys Tudge, Jordan Smith and an own goal made it 17-0.
The 5ths were completely dominant from the start with Marvin Martin scoring in the 5th minute thanks to a lay off in the box from Jordan Smith. A few minutes later Lucas Thornley went on a driving run and finished a spectacular solo goal.
The team barely had time to celebrate when Marvin Martin was fouled in the box and Lucas Thornley scored from the spot.
UCLan continued to press and had multiple corners but couldn’t score due to last ditch defending by Keele. Marvin Martin made it 4-0 with a header from Lucas Thornley’s cross and completed his hat-trick after latching onto a rebound from Liam Vickery’s shot which hit the bar.
Joe Bell powered a header into the back of the net from a Joel Cummings free-kick at the corner of the box. A minute later Joel Cummings turned from creator to scorer to make it 8-0 and just before half time Liam Vickery scored a penalty after Jack Howarth was fouled.
Joel Cummings couldn’t believe it when he netted his second goal which was a free-kick from 25 yards which bounced past the Keele goalkeeper. UCLan were relentless in pressuring Keele and substitute Sam Shobande scored after a wonderful through ball from Marvin Martin.
Unfortunately Tom Ottaway was stretchered off after a challenge in the box with Sam McLoughlin netting the resulting penalty.
Another substitute Rhys Tudge scored with a brilliant header to make it 13-0 to UCLan. As if the score line wasn’t emphatic enough already the 5ths took advantage of a tired Keele defence and scored 4 goals in the last 5 minutes of the game.
The first was an own goal from a Jack Price cross then Lucas Thornley completed his hat-trick from a corner by Joel Cummings.
Marvin Martin created another goal with a cross to Jordan Smith who scored to make it 16-0. In the dying moments of the game
