The UCLan Rams have now won a fourth successive game after they defeated the Manchester Metropolitan Eagles 30-18.
The game was only five minutes old before it was brought to a halt by a severe injury to one of the Eagles players, who was reported to have suffered a broken ankle and had to be treated on the field while awaiting an ambulance.
Play then resumed after a one hour delay, where the Rams then broke the deadlock when they scored a touchdown to take a six point lead .
In the second quarter, the Rams began to assert themselves, scoring a further two touchdowns, one of which included a conversion. This made the score 20-0 going into half-time.
After the break the Eagles started to come back into contention when they scored two touchdowns in quick succession. 20-12. The momentum then seemed to be with the Eagles, until a crucial field goal was scored by the Rams to make the score 23-12 going into the final phase of play.
In a tense final quarter the Eagles then went on to score another touchdown to reduce the deficit and set up a nervous final few minutes, as they seemed to be in the ascendancy once again.
However, the Rams were able to see out the game as they went on to score a final touchdown and then added a field goal conversion to end the game with earn a well-deserved victory going into the Christmas period.
The Rams’ next opponents will be Keele University in January before they take on local rivals Lancaster.
