Landlords and letting agencies were awarded by UCLan students

UCLan Students’ Union hosted the first awards ceremony for the winners of the Love it or Hate it? Rate it! survey this week.

The survey, ran by Campaigns Officer Lucy Haigh, was completed in May with a total of 823 responses.

The survey asked students to answer questions based around their experience within their accommodation.

Lucy Haigh said: “Its important students have a platform to raise issues about their accommodation. Not all students use our Advice Centre so it’s great to get feedback from students who wouldn’t normally speak up.”

The feedback was not all negative as students also spoke about their positive experiences whilst in their accommodation.

Some students described their accommodation and staff team as “fabulous,” with “great support” and “always there for their tenants.”

This year the survey was opened up to landlords and letting agencies rather than just university accommodation or first year student halls, in order for the Students’ Union to widen student participation.
A mini-awards ceremony was held in the Union’s Opportunities Centre and all nominees were invited to attend.

Awards ranged from Value Deal of the Year to Landlord of the Year.

Lucy Haigh said: “I’m extremely happy we had the ceremony, it was great to get accommodation providers into the union to celebrate their wins. Hopefully we can do it again next year but make it bigger and better!”

Now that the Students’ Union are aware of the issues affecting students through detailed feedback, it is going to influence the housing campaign led by Lucy Haigh, which will kick off in October.
