The annual clash ended in celebration for UCLan as Edgehill were beaten comfortably at the Sports Arena.
The home side sealed a hat-trick of victories against their opponents, with captain Lauren Vials firing home early on, before Louise Simms and Ruby Wilson both found the back of the net.
Lauren Vials said: “To win our varsity game is the best feeling. We benefited from scoring early on and today means everything to all of the girls”.
The first quarter of the game saw the two sides quite even, keeper Hannah Shore making an important stop to deny Edgehill after some good work down the right.
16 minutes into the match and UCLan took the advantage after Lauren Vials capitalized on some slack defending by Edgehill and put the hosts ahead from close range.
As half-time approached, Ruby Wilson nearly doubled UCLan’s score from 12 yards out but the Edgehill keeper made the save.
Edgehill came close to finding an equaliser just before the interval but the visitors failed to break the home side down and UCLan cleared the danger.
Louise Simms provided the second in the 30th minute tapping in from close range after some good work by Lauren on the edge of the area.
Just as UCLan looked to be taking a 2-0 advantage in at half-time, Edgehill pulled one back, bundling the ball in after Hannah Shore parried their initial shot.
Into the second half and Lauren Vials nearly scored her second, working the ball well from a short corner but the opposition keeper pulled off an excellent save.
40 minutes gone and another chance for the home side to increase their lead, Sophie Holme’s shot from outside the box just glimpsing past the post.
Edgehill struggled to make an impact after the break and several UCLan chances resulted in the home side moving 3-1 in front, Ruby Wilson’s strike from distance sealing the victory.
