For most of the first half there were a cagey feel to the cup game as Lancaster wanted to get revenge from their 9-0 thrashing 3 weeks ago yet couldn’t keep hold of the ball due to the constant pressing by UCLan.

After the half hour mark UCLan began to put real pressure on the Lancaster centre halves with Oatley making superb runs off the ball which caused havoc.

From a loose ball on 34 minutes Hannah White connected with a half volley over 30 yards out which nestled into the top left hand corner to give them a 1-0 lead.

With half time imminent Oatley hit a free kick from far out on the left hand side and gave the goalkeeper no chance of getting near the ball which gave UCLan a 2-0 lead going into the second half.

As has been the case so far this season, UCLan grew stronger as each minute went by, from a throw in Oatley turned, saw the keeper a few feet off her line and made it 3 with another fantastic finish.

With 7 minutes to go and UCLan looking for a fourth, Lancaster cleared the ball which No.11 latched onto and took the chance with a neat finish over Sophie Valentine. UCLan saw the game out well and advanced to the next round deservedly.

Chris Vickers the head coach has set his sights high for the cup, “As far as I’m concerned were out to win it, I really do think we can go all the way”.

UCLan Women’s: Sophie Valentine, Beck Pearson, Bec McGrath, Cherelle Archibald, Charlie Arrowsmith, Lauren Oatley, Rebecca Lowes, Sophie Valentine, Jess Newton, Hannah White, Amy Mckeown, Charlie Hui, Heather Shaw.
