Women’s ultimate frisbee: UCLan qualify for nationals at first time of asking

Not to be outdone by the mixed team who qualified for their first ever national tournament last month, the women’s team will be competing against sides from all across the country following their first ever tournament.

Last weekend, UCLan took part in the Northern Universities Women’s Indoor Regionals event, finishing in 4th place.

They are the only representative from the North West set to take part in the national tournament, which will be staged in Glasgow during February of next year.

The Spinners finished the weekend 14 places higher than when they entered the event, winning five out of their eight matches.

President of the UCLan Spinners, Hannah White, admitted it was a special moment when they qualified for the nationals.

“Finding out we’d qualified for Nationals was such a surreal feeling – we only entered the tournament with the mentality that it was just for experience purposes.

“This was the first time that the UCLan Spinners had ever gathered a women’s team together and the first tournament we’d ever played together.”

White, who is a Sports Studies student, says the team has had a “positive” effect on her whilst at UCLan and she hopes the club’s recent success will encourage more girls to sign up.
