Neil Robertson produced a seamless display to despatch of Ronnie O’Sullivan and set up a quarter-final against Barry Hawkins.
After a less than convincing performance in the previous round against Ricky Walden, Robertson explained how a good practice session yesterday evening paid dividends against O’Sullivan.
“I had a really good practice last night and I came into today full of confidence because I knew everything was set up perfect,” he said.
“I don’t think I mishit a single shot.”
Robertson, who was beaten by O’Sullivan a month ago at the Masters, stormed into a 3-0 lead but a rare poor safety allowed the rocket to pull a frame back.
Undeterred by dropping a frame, Robertson cleared up with an 83 break to seal a 4-1 win.
Judd Trump made another century to add to his stunning 145 against Tom Ford but came up against a ruthlessly efficient Hawkins who dropped just one frame on the way to the next round.
Liang Wenbo edged a close-knit affair with Northern Ireland’s Mark Allen 4-3 and will play for a second time later this evening against Joe Perry, who came through against Martin Gould by the same score line.
